My friend MzansiGirl will represent the #MeetMeInVilankulo campaign at the Indaba this week and in celebration of this, I’m sharing the various destinations and ample reasons why the Bazaruto Archipelago is a must-visit destination.
The small fishing town of Vilankulo is the gateway to the Archipelago with a wealth of lodges and activities to draw young and old alike.
I’ve opted to start with sharing a day and some highlights from a day spent with Vila Do Paraiso, partly as they also happen to have sponsored my fishing tackle for the Big Blue Vilankulo Sailfish Competition next week, and partly because they are the home to my very own infinity mermaid pool where I spend many a sunny day overlooking the sea and the islands.
When visiting this establishment you should definitely not miss the chance to take one of their Super Cats out to sea and see the islands.
Ben, their main skipper, is famous is this town and will show you the Bazaruto Archipelago with ease and safety. He also happens to be one of the best ‘on board braaiers’ I’ve ever met.
The Bazaruto Archipelago has 4 main islands, all easily reachable by boat and all with incredible surrounding reefs to snorkel and swim in.
Island hopping is a bog thing here! Be sure to stop over at Bazaruto island and climb the world famous dune with majestic views over the greater Archipelago.
I sometimes joke and say that we are a small drinking town with a fishing problem. And in some ways I’m maybe not too far off. Fishing is EVERYTHING here. You can catch up to 10 species of fish in one day, ranging from 10 – 1000 pounds. Marlin and Sailfish fishing is very popular (and Vila Do Paraiso has just the vessels to take you on a fishing day trip) and Ben can help even the most novice of fishermen to dip a few rods in the water and get excited about tight lines.
The one thing I enjoy the most of Vila Do Paraiso is the sense you get of staying in a ‘Home Hotel’. The rooms are affordable, comfortable and spacious and each villa comes with it’s own private butler and chef.
I never miss a chance to ask my chef to make sure that I have freshly home baked bread in the morning for breakfast. This, accompanied by good coffee, makes for the very best mornings in paradise.
I spend so many of my days in this pool, sipping Pina Coladas and daydreaming of new places to explore in my home town.
If you’re looking for a great party, or even a destination to host a large group event, Vila Do Paraiso is just the place. There is a vibe here and it is always evident for me why so many groups travel here for team building and big celebrations.
If you’d like to learn more about our town, follow #MeetMeInVilankulo on social media or contact Vila Do Paraiso directly, should you wish to meet me here for a party or two!
Big love from Vilankulo,
