I visited MACHANGULO BEACH LODGE, an hour’s speedboat from Mozambique’s capital city Maputo.
With summer holidays around the corner in the southern hemisphere and my personal holiday planning in full swing, I thought I need to share this place with you.
I remember exactly how I felt when I got up on the last morning to leave the ocean paradise of Machangulo: heartbroken. It remains one of the most beautiful beach destinations that I have ever been to.
Nestled between the dunes of arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – the lodge spearheads a marine reserve around Mozambique’s Inhaca Island and the preservation of a truly unique ecosystem.
If you are also somewhat of a water baby, you wont be disappointed.
I played for hours and hours.
I have a thing with a beach in general, but a beach that is a sunrise-go-and-walk-on-it-for-hours- beach brings back memories about my childhood and my grandparents who lived on the South Coast of South Africa’s Natal.
Machangulo has a beach just like that.
I don’t particularly run, but my friends usually do and this, let me assure you, is a runner-paradise.
I am trying to think of what this place did that was so remarkable, as it truly made an impact in my soul.
Maybe that is just it: my soul woke up and I realised what is in the past is gone. I don’t want it back. Life calls.
