Hotel Verde at the Cape Town International Airport

I often need to catch a flight at some ridiculous hour.  As much as I love travelling, I’m really not a fan of waking up at these hours to be in time for check in. Hotel Verde is like my saviour when it comes to this particular predicament.

Every aspect of Hotel Verde is designed to be as sustainable as possible. You will find ample information about their green practices and awards online, but I have a few other reasons why I love them and why I always book a room at this haven the night before I fly anywhere – even if it is not an early flight. (I love it that much.)

Just 400 metres from Cape Town International Airport and a 15-minute drive to the city’s main attractions, Hotel Verde offers you a carbon-neutral stay, along with luxurious accommodation and conferencing facilities.

The Rooms

How nice is this room? I've said it so many times, and I'll say it again: Hotel Verde has some of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on.

Hotel Verde offers a choice of executive suites and rooms, studio rooms and double and single rooms. This is a standard room.

I might’ve mentioned this before, but I’ll mention it again: I think Hotel Verde has some of the most comfortable beds in the world. If it wasn’t for the wake up call – yes, they come to your room to wake you up with coffee in bed to make sure you don’t miss your flight! – I would want to spend days lying in this bed watching series.

Once you’re up and you’ve had breakfast you can catch the complimentary shuttle to the airport. The service runs every 30 minutes from 04h10 to 00h00 every day.

The Food

The hydroponic farm for fresh organic produce right outside the kitchen door.

They grow their own fresh produce on site in a type of hydroponic farm just outside the kitchen door for all to see and be inspired by.  Its kind of nice to know where your greens come from, don’t you think?

They also have a pizza oven …

Any place that can make me a proper wood fired pizza has my attention.

The Wine

A fridge the size of a wall filled with the very best local South African wines. Take my word for it: you won't go thirsty ...

The Gardens

Hotel Verde Cape Town Airport Gardens

My cousin and I took a leisurely stroll through the gardens, almost as if we went for a walk in the park.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just don’t get to spend as much time with my family as I would like. My cousin and I now have a kind of ritual: he comes to meet me at the Hotel Verde the day before I travel to a new destination and we walk in the garden, swim, drinking some wine, eat pizza and just catch up.

The ‘Child Friendly’ Factor

My cousin and I would not be able to have this ritual if it wasn’t for their child friendly ethos. He has a fairy of a daughter, but as with most normal girls her age, she needs constant supervision.

There is never a question: Hotel Verde welcomes her and I we get to catch up while she plays in the garden or in the play area right next to the restaurant where we can keep an eye on her. It is perfect.

My cousin’s daughter, Bella. I think you’ll agree she doesn’t mind coming to see me at Hotel Verde at all.

I’m usually so stressed to get everything done before I fly off anywhere.  The eco pool, open 24 hours a day, is just the thing to relax me. Always.

Man, I love this place.

Waiting for a flight is definitely not stressful here ...
